Your Thanksgiving Eve Checklist

By November 21, 2018September 22nd, 2023Home

On the day before Thanksgiving, households all across the country are busily preparing for festive gatherings.  If you’re hosting this year, now’s not the time to panic!  Just follow this simple checklist to make sure you have all the last-minute materials you need to entertain everyone this holiday.

Take Stock & Go Shop

If you’re missing supplies for tomorrow, you want to figure that out sooner rather than later.  Take inventory of what you currently have—not just in your kitchen.  When entertaining, you’ll need to stock up on all the things your guests might need. From toilet paper to extra electronic chargers.  Of course, you’ll still need enough ingredients to prepare the ultimate holiday feast.  But having plenty of cleaning supplies to wipe up afterward is important, too.

Many stores will be closed tomorrow, or at least operating with abbreviated hours.  So, now’s the time to start shopping!  Be sure to bring your list with you so you don’t forget anything and consider going to a big box or other surplus store.  The holidays are typically a time where you’ll actually use that economy pack of paper towels, making it a more practical decision. Plus, having everything ahead of time will give you less to stress about on Thanksgiving Day.

Try a Test Run

The last thing you want to discover is that the new green bean casserole recipe you found online tastes truly terrible.  Or that your oven is being temperamental.  If you have time, prepare a dish or two tonight!  That way, not only are you lessening your to-do list for tomorrow, but also you get to sample some dishes early.  Consider this a hands-on troubleshooting mission to discover whether that appetizer is appealing as it seemed on TV.  While also ensuring all your appliances are working properly. Don’t forget about the smaller electronics, too!  Sure, your oven is essential on Thanksgiving Day, but for most people, so is your coffee maker.

Invite Some Family & Friends Over Early

Thanksgiving is all about spending time with those closest to you and counting your blessings.  Why not start the celebration a little early? On top of the quality time, you’ll also get some extra helping hands!  While we’re not suggesting inviting everyone over on Thanksgiving Eve, you can include a few people in the preparations.  Maybe one person sets the table while another bakes a dessert. Then you’re free to run around accomplishing tasks, too.  Just make sure you come back together for a little down time before the big day.

While it’s easy to get overwhelmed during the holidays, we want you to enjoy your time with family and friends—minus some of the stress.  Remember what Thanksgiving is all about at the end of the day:  counting your blessings.  Take today to appreciate what you have and let us worry about all your insurance needs.  That’s one of the benefits of working with Freedom Insurance Agency—peace of mind.  Let us know if you have any questions before or after the holiday and have a happy Thanksgiving!
