Is your home ready for the holidays?

Autumn is quickly heading into winter and next week the holidays begin. Only 38 more days until Santa makes his appearance. (If you have been behaving this year!) Is your home ready for company? Here are some tips to clean like a pro.

If you don’t have the luxury of hiring professional cleaners to do your cleaning, here’s how you can do it like a pro yourself.

The Supplies

First of all, simplify your supplies. With some thoughtful planning, you can carry all your cleaning products in one tray, just like the pros. Using a few multi-purpose solutions is the key to cutting time and clutter. Start with these

  • light-duty cleaner e.g. glass cleaner or multi-surface cleaner
  • heavy-duty degreasing cleaner
  • tile cleaner
  • powdered abrasive cleanser

That’s it! No need for anything special here. These four simple cleaners can handle any ordinary cleaning chore.

The Uniform

Professional cleaners dress for the job in comfortable, washable clothing designed for work. Get yourself some shoes with good support and a pair of kneepads, too. A set of goggles and plastic gloves is a good idea to protect against chemicals and can save a trip to urgent care. And a cleaning apron keeps tools and supplies at your fingertips. Set aside your “cleaning uniform”, and wear it, right down to shoes, gloves and eye protection. No more bleach-stained sweatshirts and dripping bathrobes!

The Tools

There’s no need for gadgets, and forget flimsy dollar store cheapies. Well-made cleaning tools are worth the investment, saving you time and money in the long run. Replace your rickety sponge mop with a terry-covered Magic Mop, or Sh-mop by COMSENTECH for easy, efficient floor cleaning, just like the pros. Shop your local auto parts store for detailing towels – white terry cleaning cloths. They’re durable enough to stand up to walls, counters and floors. Wash them up afterward in hot water and bleach.

Get a tote for your tools — cleansers, brushes and rags – and carry it with you. No more running back to the laundry room for a towel. All tools needed to finish the job are right there with you. And have the vacuum, mop and mini-vac waiting in the doorway. Tuck a plastic trash bag in your back pocket right next to the feather duster.

The Motivator

Play your favorite, upbeat music while you clean. Or for you bookworms, put your current reading material on the i-Pod. Cleaning as a team with friends or family members can also help you stay on task and ease the boredom of a cleaning session. Working with a parent is also a great way to teach your children skills he or she will need for life.

Now Get Moving!

Schedule a time to clean and get the job done! You’ll be glad you did when you’re relaxing with friends and family instead of running about with a can of cleanser when the doorbell rings this holiday season!
