Halloween Insurance Needs

By October 31, 2018September 22nd, 2023Home

Now that Halloween is finally here, it’s time to celebrate!  For some people that means trick-or-treating; others prefer staying home with a few horror films.  Unfortunately, there are still more who look at this holiday as an excuse to cause trouble. That’s why you have insurance! Here’s how your homeowners and auto insurance will help to protect you against common pranks.

Too Much TP

You’re probably thinking to yourself, “Who still toilet papers houses?”  Well, some Halloween traditions never die.  Although most cases of TP’ing are more annoying than damaging, there have been times where pranksters have gotten a little out of hand.  If you notice any lasting signs of vandalism as you clear away the toilet paper, then it may be time to file a claim.  Whether or not you find the culprits, your homeowners’ insurance can help.  Just be sure to take pictures and send them to us! Using these and your personal policy details, we can work with you to determine the best course of action.

Egging Them On

Ah, yes.  Egging is still a thing, too.  Tricksters have been known to throw raw eggs at houses, cars, and other personal property as part of a “harmless” prank.  When other projectiles come into the mix, though, they can cause far more damage.  Rocks, pumpkins, and other fruits or vegetables have all been used at one time or another—despite the fact that egging has been illegal for years now. What many people don’t realize is they cause problems everywhere!  They think since eggs break easily, they won’t leave any lasting signs of the trick. Unfortunately, they can still break windows, ruin paint, and cause bodily injury.  If this happens to you and the surfaces just aren’t coming clean, you may need assistance from your homeowners and/or auto insurance.  They can help with professional cleaning services and other necessarily repairs.

Missing Decorations

Some homeowners really get into Halloween.  In terms of spending, this holiday is second only to Christmas, and it’s much more than costumes or candy.  Decorations have a huge market too and many of them belong outside!  With the growing number decorating neighborhoods today, it’s no wonder pranksters get the idea to carry them off.  They may swap pieces from house to house or decide to keep them, but either way you could qualify for help replacing them.  Most homeowners, condo, and even renters insurance have provisions for stolen possessions.  You may just have to provide your original receipt and file a policy report.  For a small pumpkin, this seems a bit excessive. For a giant animatronic Frankenstein, though, it’s worth it.

Hopefully, you won’t have to deal with any of these issues tonight!  All of us at Freedom Insurance Agency are wishing you a safe and happy Halloween.  We just want you to know that if you end up on the wrong side of trick-or-treat, we’ll be here for you.
