Back-to-School Insurance Prep

By August 14, 2019September 22nd, 2023Auto, Home

With summer on its way out, it’s time to tackle your back-to-school prep!  Between the shopping, organizing, scheduling, and more—you’ve got plenty to keep you busy.  Just don’t forget to review your insurance somewhere along the way.  Especially if you have kids going away to college this year, you may need to adjust one or more policies.  Fortunately, you don’t have to do it alone!  At Freedom Insurance Agency, we can help you update your homeowners’ insurance, auto insurance, and other coverage as needed, before the new school year starts.

On the Road Again

Driving is a big part of back-to-school, no matter where your students go!  Which means your auto insurance should be up-to-date.  How is your vehicle holding up in those drop-off lines?  Are you considering buying a new family car?  Make sure you contact Freedom Insurance Agency for a free quote before you decide!  We can help you calculate this additional cost when budgeting for a purchase that will make you the envy of all other car pools.

Maybe this is the year that you need to add a new driver to your policy.  Or reevaluate your coverage as your children go off to college. Since younger drivers can affect your auto insurance premium dramatically, you’ll want to budget for any changes accordingly.  Certain details, like where they’re going to school and even their GPA, might actually qualify you for a discount.  So, be sure to ask your local Carroll County agent about them when you call.

Homeowners’ Insurance & Dorm Life

It seems like back-to-school shopping gets more expensive every year—right?  After you buy all of the necessary school supplies, which now includes plenty of electronics, make sure you have the coverage to replace them if something happens.  Obviously, smaller items like pens, notebooks, and paper aren’t going to fall under your homeowners’ insurance.  But laptops, tablets, and TVs might.  Even if they get lost or damaged while your children are away at school, living in a dorm.

To stay on the safe side, just check your policy limits before they leave.  If you feel your limits are too low, we can talk about scheduling the more expensive items.  Or even adding renters’ insurance for students who’ll be living off-campus rather than in dorms.

Have a Healthy, Happy School Year

Everyone knows that schools can be a breeding ground for germs, so don’t send your kids back to school without health insurance!  Hopefully, you’ve been using it to schedule their annual checkups and immunizations in advance of the new year.  But now could be a good time to reevaluate your coverage.

Since we’re mid-year, most health insurance plans won’t let you make changes without a reason. However, if you’re sending students off to college, be sure to research their on-campus options.  Depending on their level of care and pricing, it might be a more affordable alternative to keep everyone healthy during the new school year.

Even though we don’t handle health insurance here at Freedom Insurance Agency, we want you to be as prepared for back to school as possible!  If you have any other questions or concerns, contact us for a free review of your coverage today.
