At Home: Father’s Day Activities Everyone Will Enjoy

By June 12, 2019September 22nd, 2023Home

What do you do for the dad who appreciates lowkey celebrations?  Spend Father’s Day at home with the man of honor!  If that sounds boring, then you’re looking at it all wrong. There are plenty of ways to have fun around the house with your whole family.  It just requires a little planning, some ingenuity, and a willingness to go with the flow.  At least for the weekend!

Get Outside!

There’s a reason Father’s Day falls during summer each year.  It’s basically an invitation for you and Dad to celebrate outside!  Whether you have a traditional backyard barbecue this weekend or get silly with some street games, both are fun reminders that you can be a kid at any age.  Why not ask your father what his favorite childhood games were?  Then, get out there and recreate the magic!  You can invite the whole family to play a fun game of kickball, soccer, or street hockey.  Maybe even the whole neighborhood!  Create a Father’s Day tournament and let Dad show off his skills. It’s the perfect celebration for any sports-lover; plus, it encourages everyone to turn off their electronics and participate!

Indulge Dad’s Hobbies

Maybe your dad has other hobbies besides following/playing sports.  Consider Father’s Day his opportunity to indulge them!  Give him some time off to flex his photography muscles or wander to new locations for bird watching.  Before the big day, why not ask your dad about his hobbies?  Not just his current ones, but also activities he enjoyed in the past that he just doesn’t have as much time for now.  Give him a gift that will inspire him to get back into the habit and take it a step further—offer to go with him!  Your dad will appreciate the gesture and look forward to some bonding time this upcoming weekend.

Take a Trip Down Memory Lane

Father’s Day is for all the dads out there!  Even the ones who can’t be here with us.  Many families choose to honor those who’ve passed away with special tributes.  For you, that could be digging through old family albums and watching slide shows or home videos.  For others, it might be serving a special dish or raising a memorial flag.  As long as you take the time this weekend to share your favorite memories of Dad and the whole family.  Who knows? You might even learn a few new stories during your trip down memory lane.

The best part about all of these fun activities, though, is the fact that you can enjoy them from the comfort of home!  You don’t have to go out or spend a lot of money to celebrate Father’s Day.  At Freedom Insurance, we find that some of the best things in life come from experience, rather than expense.  We hope that these suggestions inspire you this holiday weekend.  Have a wonderful time with your whole family!
